It’s a Mountain (biking) Town!

If you like to shred the “brown-pow” you are in the right place. Park City and the surrounding communities have many more mountain trails than you are going to ride. In fact, picking an area to start with can be overwhelming. I’d start here: http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/idx-parkcity.htm . Don’t over-think this. Find an interesting trail and go there. You’re going to have fun. You’ll soon hear about all the famous routes (and hear rumors of the underground trails that only locals know 😊) But here are a few of my favorites:

Downhill: Pony-up for the cost of the lift and go ride the Tidal Wave, Tsunami and Holy Roller at Deer Valley. You won’t be sorry. While you are there, ask the other downhillers where they ride. This is a little pricey- but worth the splurge. If you don’t already own it, consider renting serious protective gear for this day. These trails are fun-scary, not scary-scary, but they elbow and knee pads are sort of a minimum and a full-face mask will keep things fun.

Enduro: Bob’s Basin is medium-technical fun, that the whole family can enjoy. These short, sweet laps are great for groups with different endurance and skill levels http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/JR-24-7.htm

If you need to polish your obstacle skills, then you may want to practice at Trailside Park. http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/trailside-park.htm This is a man-made training ground to get your skills up to snuff. But if you can ride there, you can ride anywhere.  When you are ready to throw down, make your way to Canyon’s village and try the Red Coat, Double Down, Insurgent area. If you clean these… start looking for the underground trails around Empire at deer Valley. (Which don’t exist.) http://www.parkcitymountain.com/summer/bike-park-hours-price.aspx#/TrailMap

Jumps: https://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/pc-dirt-jumps.html The Park City dirt jumps are a sculpted dirt jumps set up progression-style from little bumps for kids on strider bikes, all the way up to some of the biggest jumps I've ever seen! Seriously, the lips on the big line are about 8 feet high, completely vertical, and absolutely enormous. If you want to go big, this is the place!
Best of all, this awesome park is on city property and is municipally funded.

XC: This is PC’s sweet spot. There are so many options I couldn’t possibly list them all. But the names you’ll hear are (in no particular order) Wasatch Crest, Mid-mountain, Jenny’s, Armstrong, Spiro and Pine Cone Ridge. My personal favorites are the Big-Dog option of the Flying Dog trail, loops off of Rob’s trail, and Round Valley (try Rusty Shovel and No-where Elks). Got only two hours to kill? Or is it really hot? “Road to WOS” is your option. It’s a small, isolated area, but it’s been called the most fun two miles of the Wasatch. Ride it twice- once in each direction. It’s totally different both ways. http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/trails/summitpark.htm
